REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: James Goehrung, Director of Facility Services
Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Approval of Change Order #5 for the Landfill Addition
MEETING DATE: January 19, 2010
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign Change Order #5 for the
addition of heat tape and installation of French drains for the downspouts on the Landfill
Addition Building in the amount of $2,332.09
BACKGROUND: The original design for the building did not include heat tape in the
building addition gutters. After experiencing some of the recent winter weather conditions the
large expanse of roof, and the related run-off from the roof, causes the gutters to ice up. The run-
off also exceeded the carrying capacity of the gravel landscaped beds between the building and
the sidewalk where the gutters drain leading to ice build-up on the entrance sidewalks.
To address this problem heat tape was added to control the icing and the area around the gutter
downspouts was excavated and filled in with gravel for additional drainage.
FISCAL EFFECTS: This additional work will be charged against the contingency fund
for the project.

urethane insulation in the lower garage walls. Costs for this work will be charged to the garage
fire proofing budget which was funded from the Solid Waste Fund cash reserves. Total estimated
costs to bring the urethane insulation in the garage was originally estimated to cost $80,000,
