REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: James Goehrung, Director of Facility Services
Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Award bid to Ingram-Clevenger, Inc. for the reinforcement and insulation of
the filter room roof at the Bozeman Swim Center.
MEETING DATE: December 28, 2009
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the award of bid to Ingram-Clevenger for re-enforcement and insulation, per engineering design, of the filter room roof at
the Bozeman Swim Center for $6,270.01 of budgeted monies.
BACKGROUND: Insulation was removed from the roof of the filter room at the Swim
Center because it did not have the proper vapor barrier. Moisture had worked its way into the insulation and there were concerns that the moisture would deteriorate the wooden trusses.
During the Facilities Condition Index assessment of the building, there was some sagging
detected in the trusses. A solution is to install an additional support beam at mid-span to shore
up the roof. There is no insulation on the ceiling and due to the high moisture content in the filter room the insulation will not only conserve energy, but also protect the roof materials.
The renovation project was bid and bids were opened on this project on November 16, 2009.
Three bids were received on the project.
This project will reinforce the roof joist beams which have began to sag. This project will also
have a sprayed in 6 inch insulation with a fire retardant paint.
FISCAL EFFECTS: $5,000 was included for this project in the FY 2010 budget. The balance of the cost ($1,270) will come from the Swim Center’s approved repair and maintenance contingency budget.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
