Declaring December 2009 Drunk Drugged Drivin C-Z�*r

WHEREAS, the December holiday season is traditionally one of the most
deadly times of the year for alcohol impaired driving crashes and
fatalities and;
4 i WHEREAS, in December 2008, 3074 people were killed in crashes on C�

year involve a female driver and in December 2008, 19% of the female
drivers who were killed in traffic crashes had a BAC of .08 or higher.

i�ry) WHEREAS, drunk driving is a choice, not an accident, and
WHEREAS, drunk driving arrests in Gallatin County continue to rise
indicating that the incidence of drunk driving continues, putting us all at D 5�' R

WHEREAS, we all have a right to safe roadways, and organizations
across the nation are joining with the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration to launch "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving" a national
public awareness campaign and law enforcement initiative to call f
attention to the dangers of "buzzed driving and
WHEREAS, the city of Bozeman is a partner in that effort to make our
roads and streets and therefore our community safer; tiU
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that as the Ci ty of Bozeman
Mayor, I proclaim December 2009 as Drunk and Drugged Driving (313)
J Prevention Month. I do hereby call upon all citizens, government
agencies, business leaders, hospitals and health care providers, schools, i
and public and private institutions in the City of Bozeman to promote
awareness of the impaired driving problem, to support programs and
policies to reduce the incidence of impaired driving, and to promote safer w
and healthier behaviors regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs,
this December holiday season and throughout the year. f tic,
