HomeMy WebLinkAboutApprove Lease Agreement with MSU-Extended University for space in Stiff Building.pdf Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: James Goehrung, Director of Facility Services Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager SUBJECT: Lease Agreement with MSU-Extended University for space in the Alfred M. Stiff Professional Building MEETING DATE: December 7, 2009 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the lease agreement with MSU-Extended University for computer lab training space in the basement of the Alfred M. Stiff Professional Building. BACKGROUND: An area in the basement of the Alfred M. Stiff Professional building has been leased to MSU-Extended University, formerly MSU Great Falls College of Technology, for the last 9 years. In exchange for the use of the 1,167 square feet of space, the University provides 2 spaces in each scheduled non-credited class, with a class fee less than $150.00, for City of Bozeman employees at no charge. There was a time that the school requested more office space and they were charged a dollar amount per square foot for that space. They have since given up the office space that they were paying for and have reverted back to the trade for space. With the increase in costs for custodial services an agreement was reached with the school that they would pay for the cost of custodial services. Per the agreement the school will pay $1.39 a square foot for the 1,167 square feet of space they occupy, for an annual fee of $1,622.13. After multiple requests for a signed copy of the lease from the school, I now have a signed copy to present for approval and signatures. FISCAL EFFECTS: The school will be billed on a monthly basis by the finance department for the custodial services. The school will need to bring the account current upon first billing in order to pay over the remainder of the year. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
