The PBE met in the upstairs conference room at the Bozeman City Hall on 411 E Main Street, on
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. Present were task force members Steve Bruner, Peter
Belschwender, Matt Madden, Otto Pohl , Mel Kotur and city staff liaison Hattie Baker

Sub‐committee schedule was given to members
Discussed possible recommendation day cleaning options in buildings
¾ Save electricity and clean during the day
¾ Why are lights on at night?
Safety issues
Could switch to motion sensors
What is the process that will get us to a draft in May
¾ Hattie Baker stated she would attend all meetings and take notes of the meetings and put
together draft recommendations for the committee to review and edit
What does the committee want to address? City or community?
¾ Give city guidelines for how to manage city facilities and then work on community
¾ Can’t tell people what to do so should focus on government
¾ Concerns of affordability and buy‐in for community
¾ Take into account cost of energy to meet energy code
¾ Look at best practices‐ don’t reinvent the wheel
¾ Don’t want to miss private sector
¾ Stressed that committee should still have a plan for the community

What is planning and how does it fit with the other sub‐committee?
¾ PBE will focus on vertical planning

¾ TLU should focus on horizontal planning
Hattie will let the TLU sub‐committee know
How can we enforce energy codes?
¾ Set something in codes or standards and recommendations for commercial and energy
construction
How far is the reach of the city?
Should the committee bring all households under one umbrella?
Community value to have a mixed energy usage
What is the administration cost for LEED? Is it worth it?
Does the city purchase own electricity?
¾ City buys through North Western Energy
¾ Consider purchase from Judith Gap or other sources
¾ School District and Hospital purchase their own
Hattie will contact Energy Managers for School District 7 for future meeting

Recommendation for city to purchase energy from renewable sources
Recommendation to hire an Energy Manager
Recommendation that offsets should be the last course of action
The next meeting will be December 12th – Sector focus‐ Building/Signal Maintenance
