Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: James Goehrung, Director of Facility Services
Debbie Arkell, Director of Public Services
Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Professional Services Agreement with Stahly Engineering & Associates, Inc., for
engineering and inspection services for the lower yard vehicle maintenance
building and HRDC bus storage facility.
MEETING DATE: October 5, 2009
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the professional services
agreement with Stahly Engineering & Associates for engineering and inspection services for the
lower yard vehicle maintenance building and HRDC bus storage facility in the amount of
$35,322.00.
BACKGROUND: The award of bid for the construction of the joint use facility at the City’s
lower yard for the City of Bozeman and HRDC is scheduled to occur later in this meeting.
Initial site and civil work was done to make sure that the proper soil preparation is done and to
identify any site obstructions that might still be on the property from the former use as the city’s
wastewater plant. Now that the project is moving forward the contract for services needs to be
formalized. Additionally, $7,970 of geotechnical survey work was performed by Stahly
Engineering prior to the development of this contract and has been paid. The cost of this work,
while not included in this contract, has been included in the total project costs budget estimates
and will be split with HRDC.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The cost for these professional design services is included in the project
budget. The city’s share of the costs will be $17,661.00.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
