HomeMy WebLinkAboutService Agreement with Simplex Grinnell for inspection of Fire Sprinkler Systems Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: James Goehrung, Director of Facility Services Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager SUBJECT: Award of contract for the annual inspection of Fire Sprinkler Systems in city owned buildings. MEETING DATE: September 14, 2009 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent Agenda RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign a service agreement with Simplex Grinnell in the amount of $720.00 for the inspection of fire sprinkler systems in city owned buildings. BACKGROUND: Fire code under the National Fire Protection Association, (NFPA) requires that fire suppression systems be inspected on an annual basis. The inspection requirements are outlined in the NFPR Pamphlet 25. Three service providers who have certified installers on staff were contacted and each supplied a proposal for service. The buildings indentified for inspection are: The Bozeman Senior Citizens Center, Bridger Park Downtown, Fire Station #1, Fire Station #2, Bogert Park Pavilion, the Alfred M. Stiff Professional Building, and the Bozeman Public Library. Other buildings, the new City Hall, Story Mansion, and Fire Station #3 are still under warranty and will be added to the contract next year. FISCAL EFFECTS: The negotiated contract is paid for from the general fund budget in Facilities. The same service provider that has been taking care of the city buildings was again the most competitive on pricing at $720.00 for all buildings. The price actually came in for less money this year, ($900.00 last year), which will result in an overall savings. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
