SUBJECT: Change order request #8 for City of Bozeman Fire Station #3
MEETING DATE: August 24, 2009
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent item.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Resolution No. 4201, authorizing the City Manager to
sign Change Order #8 in the amount of $306.00 for Fire Station #3.
BACKGROUND: Final close out of the construction work on Fire Station #3 is taking place.
A meeting was held on August 17, with the architect, engineer, contractor, and city staff to
finalize the project. Final occupancy will not be issued until the County 911 Center receives
approval of their equipment room fire suppression system and they move into the building later
this fall.
Items still to be completed include submission of the operation and maintenance manuals, final
as-built drawings, and training sessions on the various building systems – fire alarm, mechanical
systems, and other specialty pieces of equipment.
The items included on this change order are outlined on the Change Order Request Form #10,
(copy attached). The item includes: flooring credits for the kitchen; installation of the paging
system; the addition of a cabinet panel; additional sidewalk width to accommodate snow
plowing; and a change in materials for the counter area near the kitchen sink. The result is an
additional charge of $306.00.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The cost for this change order will be covered by the project
contingency. A summary of change orders shows:

COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 4201
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN,
MONTANA, APPROVING ALTERATION/MODIFICATION OF CONTRACT
WITH MARTEL CONSTRUCTION, INC., BOZEMAN, MONTANA.
WHEREAS, the City Commission did, on the 21st day of July 2008, authorize award of the bid for
the Construction of Fire Station #3, to Martel Construction Inc., Bozeman, Montana; and
WHEREAS, Section 7-5-4308, Montana Code Annotated, provides that any such alterations or
modifications of the specifications and/or plans of the contract be made by resolution; and
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the prosecution of the work to make alterations or
modifications to the specifications and/or plans of the contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman,
Montana, that the proposed modifications and/or alterations to the contract between the City of Bozeman, a
municipal corporation, and Martel Construction Inc., Bozeman, Montana, as contained in Change Order No. 8,
attached hereto, and Change Orders No. 1-7 previously approved, be and the same are hereby approved; and
the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute the contract change order for and on behalf of
the City; and the City Clerk is authorized and directed to attest such signature.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana, at a regular
session thereof held on the 24th day of August, 2009.
