Jason/Jon Henderson – Story Under the Stars – ideas for bike racks??? Poster ? distribution? ?transportation time video Paul House – 4. Review Baker’s procedural memo and Rebecca’s example from Engineers without Borders for project planning (e.g. Bike to School Day). 5. Planning for bike to school day - Zac 6. Discussion of website and Google groups – how does it work, how shall we use it? What do we need to add to the city’s webpage about BABAB? From Elizabeth Williamson: 1. Does the board want "just" a bike board web site, or start a broader, more inclusive Bozeman Bike Community type site (that could link to all the other bike activities and initiatives going on in the valley) with the bike board imbedded within? 2. Should we use the "gaggle" of loosely coupled Google-based web options and a really interesting social networking site (which also acts as a web site) called "Ning", which can also be tied to some of the Google functions (such as google docs). Here are two sample sites: "Ning" site: http://bozemanforchange.ning.com/ Google Groups- Gallatin Grassroots Forum: http://gallatingrassrootsforum.googlepages.com/ I'd love to get the board's feedback "en masse". Is there be enough time at the meeting to go over? Or should I try to process these questions/feedback through email? In the interim, I'll try to get links to everyone of the two "test sites" before the meeting. The Ning beta site is further along than the Google site....I didn't want to go too far until I received direction on question #1. To help with the website discussion, I was pointed to Transportation Plan. In it, they recommend a "central" website for all the bike services and resources in the Bozeman Area; a sort of Bozeman Bike resource clearinghouse concept. Kinda where we were headed already. See excerpted recommendations below. To hopefully help with initial visualizations, here are two mock pages; one using Google Sites (http://sites.google.com/site/bikebozemancentral/) and the other using the social networking site bikebozeman.ning.com "Ning" (). I know the Google Sites can be renamed to a non-google sites address, if we purchase a domain that we want to use. I don't know if this is true for Ning. The Transportation Plan also recommended a Canadian website as an example of how it could look/function:http://www.velo.qc.ca/english/index.php. 7. BABAB fund-raising – Budget discussions on the general fund will be 4 to 6 p.m. on August 17th and we could comment about it during public comment then (or send an e-mail to the Mayor and Commissioners at agenda@bozeman.net). The The final budget won't be adopted until likely the end of September. th Commission discussed the street maintenance budget a little on July 20. They verbally supported the 2% increase requested for street maintenance. There is money requested in the budget for bike to work week, bike to school week, lights for night bike riders and the maps/brochures. The rest of the 25k in capital is for bike lane painting and maintenance. They may not talk about this budget again until August when they vote on the 2% increase. If they voted to not support the increase the department would have to make about 50k in cuts. VanDelinder already cut over $100k. 8. Map info and Map distribution: Status of the last box from David Braumbauer? From Aimee Kissel: Another wonderful map that the City GIS department created is interactive and is completely up to date and fun to use. The link for that map is http://www.bozeman.net/bozeman/GIS/InteractiveGIS.aspx then you can enter the site and click bike route and bike lane on the right and it overlays them onto the map. What do we want to make sure is addressed in the new map? BABAB can get on email list for all public meetings. 9. Per our minutes: “” - Who wants to get onto the email list and track agenda items that we may want to comment on? 10. Proposed changes to Bike Board charter (to address scope of our activities and cover liability, and address open meetings requirements) – Jason and Baker 11. City Capital Improvements Program Plan – we have a copy –review it so we’re ready to make recommendations by October or November? 2-3 person sub-committee perhaps? 12. Transportation system management recommendations (over 100) in the City Transportation Plan – do we want to review to make recommendations for priorities that fall into the city’s maintenance budget? In the list of Committed Transportation System Management (CTSM) Improvements John VanDelinder: and Recommended Transportation System Management (TSM) improvements nothing is actually funded and none would fall under the Street Maint. budget. The CIP is just a plan and not a list of funded or budgeted projects. The Commission still has to ok CIP projects as they are budgeted. Camera sensors on traffic lights sense bikes through motion detectors. MDT 13. Per our minutes: “ is in control of signals. In the future, all signals will contain motion detectors- which are good th for bikes. Kagy and Willson, Tamarack and Rouse (and I think N. 7 intersections) also need detectors. ” – Do we want to take action on signals, e.g. write a letter to MDT? The Kagy/Willson signal is a city signal. About 30k to put cameras on this signal. John VanDelinder: Would have to go into the 5 year CIP plan that is discussed next winter. At this time there is no money in the plan until 2015 unless something was cut. I’m hoping Kagy could be improved with State Urban funds by then but that has yet to be decided. 14. Revisit idea of proposing an expansion to our membership. 15. Bike/Ped Coordinator Job Description (per Natalie’s recommendation) - brainstorm Rebecca: example bike/ped coordinator position descriptions - what fits best for the greater Bozeman area? New business: 16. Jason - See article re: state funded "Share the Road" signs. Bill Schneider, who coordinated the effort, has offered to help any other cities interested in a similar effort. 17. Rebecca Alliance for Biking & Walking The will provide approximately - grant opportunity - Advocacy Advance Grants $250,000 in grants to member organizations in 2009.
