Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board (BABAB)
Agenda
August 5, 2009, 6 p.m.
City Commission Room, City Hall, 121 N. Rouse
1. Introductions and public comment
2. Review and approve July minutes.
3. Updates:
Baker - Bike to Work Week thank you letters What else?
4. Review Baker’s procedural memo and Rebecca’s example from Engineers without
Borders
5. Planning for bike to school day - Zac
6. Discussion of website and Google groups – how does it work, how shall we use it? What
do we need to add to the city’s webpage about BABAB? Can we somehow use Gmail to open
our email decision-making process to interested citizens (per Ethics training)?
7. Proposed changes to Bike Board charter – Jason
8. City Capital Improvements Program Plan – we have a copy –review it so we’re ready to
make recommendations by October or November? 2-3 person sub-committee perhaps?
9. Transportation system management recommendations (over 100) in the City
Transportation Plan – do we want to review to make recommendations for priorities that
fall into the city’s maintenance budget? Another sub-committee? These, CTEP projects and
what’s in the CIP plan seem to be the only funded aspects of transportation planning at this
point. The "Bozeman Pedestrian & Traffic Safety Committee" is pressing the City
Commission to create a program for sidewalk maintenance.
10. BABAB fund-raising – hear report on budget request; make a decision about proceeding
with our own fund development.
11. Per our minutes: “BABAB can get on email list for all public meetings.” - Who wants to
get onto the email list and track agenda items that we may want to comment on?
12. Per our minutes: “Camera sensors on traffic lights sense bikes through motion
detectors. MDT is in control of signals. In the future, all signals will contain motion
detectors- which are good for bikes. Kagy and Willson, Tamarack and Rouse also need
detectors.” – Do we want to take action on signals, e.g. write a letter to MDT?
13. Revisit idea of proposing an expansion to our membership – thoughts? Perhaps if we
expanded our membership (or even if we didn’t), we could invite the County to recommend
a small number of County-based appointees, that would go as a recommendation to the City
to make the actual appointment. This would be an option short of a formal agreement for a
joint Board between City and County, which would be complicated to implement and
possibly complicate the Board’s life thereafter. Should we have Ralph Zimmer from the
Pedestrian & Traffic Safety Committee come talk to us about how the process works for
them (they have at least one County rep, I’m checking if they’re a joint board)?
14. Bike/Ped Coordinator Job Description (per Natalie’s recommendation) - brainstorm
