HomeMy WebLinkAboutFiscal Year 2010 Budget Hearing Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Anna Rosenberry, Finance Director Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Budget Hearing for FY2010 MEETING DATE: July 20, 2009 RECOMMENDATION: Open and Continue the Budget Hearing to September 14, 2009. BACKGROUND: State property tax timelines prohibit the City from adopting a final budget and tax levy before the fiscal year begins. By advertising, opening and continuing the statutorily required Budget Hearing, we will be able to adopt the final budget once taxable values are received, without further delay. This year, the City has received notice from the Montana Department of Revenue that taxable values will be delayed by at least 3 weeks this year. They estimate delivery of certified values in the last week of August. We recommend that the Budget Hearing be continued to the September 14, 2009 meeting. Prior to the final adoption hearing, numerous other budget discussions are scheduled: Monday, July 20, 4-6pm: Enterprise and Special Revenue Funds Monday, August 3: General Fund – Public Safety Monday, August 10: General Fund – All Other Departments 276 This evening, we would like to take public comment on the budget. The City Manager’s Recommended Budget document and Budget Details Report can be found at http://www.bozeman.net/finance/budget.aspx . FISCAL EFFECTS: None at this time. Changes and adjustments to elements of the budget may be proposed for adoption at later public hearing dates. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
