HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-09 Community Alcohol Coalition Minutes Minutes: April 14, 2009 Community Alcohol Coalition Members Present: Jenny Haubenreiser, Marty Kent, Glenn Puffer, Donna LaRue, Clare Darrough, Jeff Krauss, Eris Miller Guest: Jason Karls March minutes were approved by members present. Discussion Items ? Eris announced her resignation from ADSGC. She will be attending graduate school in Oregon. She brought her new replacement to the meeting – Jason Karls – who will apply to take her position on the CAC. Appreciation was expressed for Eris’s service to the CAC and her good work for the community. ? The group discussed the updated City brochure (which will need to be updated again to remove Eris’s name) and where these are located. Marty informed the group that the public can get these brochures at the City Shop, which is where permits are granted to the public who are renting City facilities and wishing to serve alcohol at larger functions. ? Jenny raised an issue brought to her by MSU staff who oversee the Streamline Late Night bus service. Ridership has decreased during the last few months and questions have been raised about driver and “attendant” safety, along with public perception of the service. Marty indicated he would be willing to talk with Streamline staff about safety issues and provide training. He also indicated that he was not aware of any change in officers monitoring the late night busses. Jenny will organize a meeting with the MSU staff and students who oversee Streamline, along with some of the community stakeholders over the summer. This service is recognized as an important benefit to the campus and community, and thus efforts will continue to ensure Streamline is perceived as a safe alternative to driving. ? Marty discussed progress made at the Fairground dances. He has been working with the security staff and event organizers. More efforts are being made to control underage drinking at the events and Marty feels the primary problems have been resolved (including past problems with the security). Different events appear to bring different issues (e.g., the Atmosphere concert attracted many pot smokers). This will require ongoing efforts to monitor and maintain, but Marty feels things are going relatively smoothly, largely because members of the Fairground leadership are committed to minimizing problems with alcohol. ? Jenny brought up the recent Beer Festival at the Fairgrounds (she was a volunteer server at this event). Eris had been brought in by the vendor to give the volunteers a short server training (although she was not informed that it would be a short training). Jenny reported seeing many very intoxicated people; however Marty reported no overall problems at the event. Around 150 cars were left in the parking lot, many apparently opting to take the Streamline bus (which ran extra routes that evening). Others brought bicycles with them to ride home. ? Eris reported that compliance checks were conducted in Belgrade: 10 businesses passed and 8 failed. th The meeting was adjourned at 5:30. The next meeting will be on May 12 at 4 p.m.
