HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-06-09 Bicycle Advisory Board Minutes Here are minutes from our May meeting, from Molly Pickall with slight amendments by Elizabeth Bird Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board Minutes May 6, 2009 Board Members Present: Elizabeth Bird, Co-Chair Chad Bailey, Co-Chair Baker Lyon Bill Cochran Jason Delmue Joseph Szasz Rebecca Gleason Molly Pickall Guests Present: John Vandelinder The meeting commenced at 6 pm. To start BABAB discussed the agenda of its next meeting, in particular inviting City and County representatives to discuss the new Bozeman Transportation Plan and BABAB's role in Action Item: implementation. Elizabeth Bird will contact Andy Epple and Natalie Meyer. John Vandelinder agreed to contact a representatives from Engineering. Bill Cochran will contact County representative Chris Scott. Planning and details for Bike To Work Week were discussed. Raffle prizes have been collected, a few more are needed. Donations received from Girls Outdoors, Sola Café, Dave’s Sushi, Action Item Northern Lights, and Owenhouse Bike Shop. : Joseph Szasz reviewed publicity efforts and agreed to distribute a press release and contact radio stations for interviews and Action Item: announcements during BTWW. Molly Pickall will produce the press release and distribute it to BABAB and John Vandelinder. Molly provided an update on the Sustainable Transportation seminar. GVBC will provide Action Item: lodging and dinner for panelists. The list of panelists is nearly finalized. Molly created a companion flier to advertise the seminar event and when it is finalized, she will forward it to BABAB, John Vandelinder, and Aimee Kissel. All BABAB members are encouraged to distribute this flier electronically and to post it around town. Baker Lyon provided further updates on BTWW planning. Tshirts have been designed and will Action Item: be ready Monday afternoon. BABAB members will all meet at the Co-Op Tuesday AM to pick up tshirts and raffle tickets (Chad Bailey will get these from Steve Bretson) to use at each coffee stop throughout the week. Action Items: Friday's Bike Party event:Molly will contact non-profits to set up informational tables/booths at Bogert Park. Rebecca Gleason will contact Streamline. Molly will also recruit additional volunteers from GVBC (for set up and clean up). Rebecca will create an informational flier about BABAB to distribute and Joseph and Elizabeth will create a BABAB sign. Bike shops need to be contacted for participating in the Bike Expo. Other business was discussed, including several granting opportunities. Rebecca is applying for a public participation grant to encourage communication between the City and County and their Action Item: constituents. She will compose a letter of support from BABAB. Rebecca also reported that the Western Transportation Institute applied to administer the Safe Routes to School statewide program. Bill Cochran provided an update on training and a recent development to bring a bike safety specialist to Bozeman and offer a group training. Rebecca Gleason and Joseph Szasz will share Board Secretary responsibilities starting with the June 2009 meeting. The meeting concluded at 7:45 pm
