HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-06-09 Senior Citizen's Advisory Board Minutes Minutes of the meeting held May 6, 2009 of Bozeman Senior Citizens' Advisory Board follow. Members present: Ken Tiahrt, Ted Mangun, Don Pierre, Charlotte Kress, Frank Schledorn, and Eric Bryson. Patricia Phillips was on leave for medical reasons. Meeting convened at 1:20 pm. Agenda items. Item 1 . Public Comment – none. Item 2 . “Older Americans Week in Bozeman May 17-23, 2009” plans were reviewed. Replacement of the dining room floor in the Senior Center building is nearly finished. Item 3. Various things that affect lives of senior citizens in Bozeman were mentioned. Members of our board have received numerous comments testifying to the value of the Galavan bus service to seniors and handicapped persons. We believe there would be interest in a regularly scheduled series of “qualified presenters” in a public forum format related to current community, state, and national issues. No particular sponsor or location was discussed. This matter will be revisited. Future plans for bicycle/hiking paths between Bozeman and Belgrade were discussed. The need for such paths is well identified. Apparently, a possible corridor for such trails has been marked on county planning maps, but there is no provision to direct funding to its implementation. A substantial number of residents presently drive from Bozeman out into the valley to utilize lower traveled roadways for bicycle riding. Safety of these highways for bicycle use is an issue. Aid for seniors (and others) that are unable to keep their own residential sidewalks snow free in winter months was discussed. One possible solution would be to find a service or social organization that might help establish a related program. Meeting adjourned at 2:25 pm.
