HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-10-09 Community Alcohol Coalition Minutes Minutes: March 10 ,2009 Community Alcohol Coalition Members Present: Jenny Haubenreiser, Eris Miller, Donna LaRue, Jenna Caplette February minutes were approved by members present Discussion Items ? The meeting attendance was small, likely due to the recent downtown incident. ? Jenny reported that yet another MSU student had applied for a position on the board. It may be that the CAC’s work on the social host ordinance is getting the attention of MSU students (who would be impacted by this). Since the CAC currently has only one MSU student position available, the board would have to ask that the bylaws be altered to allow more MSU students to be included as voting members. The high school student position has proven difficult to fill, so the members present thought this would be a good idea. Jenny will raise the issue again when more members are in attendance. ? The group discussed the number of MIPs issued in this city; both MSU and ARC have noticed a decline in numbers this past year. Marty was able to confirm that the number of MIPs issued by Bozeman City Police are down from last year. What is unclear is why. Eris has heard from youth attending her classes that the parties are getting bigger, making enforcement at the individual level more difficult for officers. Others speculated that young people are getting better at evading law enforcement. Jenny will bring this up at the next DUI Task Force meeting, since officers from several agencies will be there and could shed some light on the issue. ? Donna reported that the university police are seeing more open consumption of marijuana on campus. ? Jenna reported that she will again be looking at the number of DUIs issued by law enforcement agencies within the community, including MSU. th ? Jenna discussed the Swimming Upstream Award ceremony, which will be held on April 9. She and other colleagues have identified a strong slate of nominees this year, representing a range of influence in the field of alcohol abuse prevention and services. Jenny nominated Geoff Gamble this year for his refusal to sign the Amethyst Initiative. It is not known whether he will accept the award. ? The group briefly discussed alcohol use at the fairgrounds. This will be raised again at a future meeting. th The meeting was adjourned at 5:30. The next meeting will be on April 14 at 4 p.m.
