HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-10-09 Community Alcohol Coalition Minutes Minutes: February 10,2009 Community Alcohol Coalition Members Present: Jenny Haubenreiser, Glenn Puffer, Becky Franks, Ellie Staley, Marty Kent, Clare Darrough December minutes were approved by members present Discussion Items ? Jenny introduced Clare Darrough – the newly appointed MSU student member. Several other MSU students have shown an interest in being on the board – although there is only one slot open for an MSU student. The group began a discussion about the possibility of changing the bylaws to have more flexibility re: membership (e.g., allowing two MSU students in lieu of the BHS student position). This will be discussed again at future meetings. ? Ellie announced that PLONK has new owners. She has been impressed with them thus far and feels they may be good members to including on the CAC. She will talk to them about this when she sees them next. ? Jenny brought in a copy of the CAC’s mission statement and went through the history, goals and charge of the group. The members present do feel progress has been made, particularly in relation to the original charge of the group, which was to work on 5 specific policies (keg registration, social host policy, RBS for special events, a more comprehensive RBS policy and a safe neighborhood ordinance). Ongoing goals for the CAC after the social host policy is finished will need to be determined. ? Ellie mentioned that DBA is considering a larger-scale event downtown focusing on MSU, particularly athletics & the alumni association. They would not be seeking an open container waiver for this – the event would be more of a means to show appreciation and build a stronger bridge between MSU & downtown. ? Marty elaborated on a recent Fairground event, which ended up included some serious cases of underage drinking. Marty informed the group that while the Fairgrounds is owned by the county, Bozeman Police are the ones who respond to problems there. Marty has been in contact with the event planner and the Fairgrounds supervisor, both of whom seem to be concerned about this as well. He will be meeting with these individuals later in the month to see how they will prevent this type of incident from occurring again. CAC members were invited to attend the meeting. Marty will report back to the group on any progress made during this meeting. ? Jenny asked Marty about the number of MIPs being given within the community. The campus MIP program (which provides the mandatory programming for MSU students charged with an MIP) has seen a decrease in numbers during the past 6 months or so. Marty will look up the information for the next meeting. ? Jenny asked the group about changing the March meeting due to travel. She will follow up on this once her travel plans have been finalized. The meeting was adjourned at 5:30. The next meeting will be on March 10th (unless changed) at 4 p.m.
