Report compiled on March 13, 2009
Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Andrew Epple, Planning Director
Chris Kukulski, City Manager
SUBJECT: Story Mansion Block Subdivision
MEETING DATE: March 23, 2009
BACKGROUND: On March 2, 2009, City Commissioners moved: “to direct staff to bring
back to us that [Story Mansion Block parkland] resolution along with subdivision of the property
as you’ve heard discussed between the two uses.” The motion was seconded “under the
condition that we see the lines on the map before the subdivision occurs.” Subsequently, staff
sent out to Commissioners a sketch of how the subdivision of the Story Block could be
configured. At this time, staff is presenting to the Commission a slightly reconfigured
subdivision proposal for the Block (attached). In this proposal, similar to the original proposal,
the block would be subdivided so that the mansion, carriage house, and parking lot, are on one
lot, with yard and open space on the other lot. In this reconfiguration, though, the new north /
south lot line jogs to include more mature trees in the open space lot.
If endorsed by the Commission, staff will cause the block to be subdivided accordingly.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Commission provide staff direction on how it wishes to
proceed with regard to subdividing the Story Mansion Block.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Fiscal impacts are undetermined at this time
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
Respectfully submitted,
