Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: James Goehrung, Director of Facility Services
Chris Kukulski, City Manager
SUBJECT: Award of bid to CompuSource for voice and data cabling for Bozeman
Fire Station #3 and County 911 Emergency Communications Center
MEETING DATE: March 23, 2009
RECOMMENDATION: Ratification of the City Manager’s signature on the contract with
CompuSource to install the voice and data cable, equipment racks, patch panels and related items
for Fire Station #3 and the County 911 Communications Center. The amount of the contract
with bonding and insurance is $14,810.00.
BACKGROUND: To make sure that all the equipment installed at the new Fire Station is
compatible with our other information systems, the contract for the phone and data cabling was
bid outside the scope of the rest of the project.
Four different cabling companies were contacted and asked to submit a proposal for the IT
equipment installation. The proposals were evaluated by staff, with representatives from both
the City and the County. This vendor offered the best warranty, their references checked out
positive, and their price was toward the lower end of the proposals received.

Staff reviewed the scope of the project with the vendor and a contract was negotiated. Based on
this review staff recommends the award to CompuSource.
FISCAL EFFECTS: This work will be incorporated into the overall project and is within
the budget for the project. Each phone and data location is priced per drop. The cost for each
drop will be charged out to the City or County depending on the location in the shared building.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
Respectfully submitted,
