November minutes were approved by members present
Discussion Items
?
Jenny reported that she is still trying to get an MSU student involved. She has not been able to
contact the student who attended the November meeting. Glenn will also try to reach him. The
new intern in the MSU Health Promotion office has expressed an interest in joining the CAC as
well.
?
The group discussed the recent Christmas Stroll. Members who attended the event reported not
seeing excessive drinking or drunkenness, although the presence of alcohol was apparent and
the event ended at 7:30 p.m. The city law enforcement and the downtown business association
members were not present to provide further input.
?
The bulk of the meeting was spent discussing the recent DUI incident involving current and
former MSU students (one fatality). Jenna is writing an editorial about this for the Chronicle and
the group discussed various aspects, including the impact on the family and community
members (the victim and the driver). Members present asked about the lack of any public
response from campus administrative or faculty. Jenny was aware of faculty discussions around
this, although knew nothing about anything at the administration level. Glenn will look into this.
Jenna’s article is expected to run during December or January – she will highlight the community
impact of DUI crashes.
?
Jenny updated the group about the social host policy, which is currently awaiting review by the
City’s legal counsel (which is short-staffed at present). The CAC will continue discussing means
to promote this within the community.
?
Due to the holidays and travel, the members present elected to cancel the January meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30. The next meeting will be on February 9th at 4 p.m.
