HomeMy WebLinkAboutProposed Amendment to Ordinance No. 1727 regarding Section 2.04.040, F. Policy Meetings Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Chris A. Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to Ordinance No. 1727 regarding Section 2.04.040, F. Policy Meetings. MEETING DATE: January 14, 2008 RECOMMENDATION: Amend the language within Ordinance No. 1727 regarding Section 2.04.040, F. Policy Meetings, striking “The Commission may hold a policy meeting on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. The policy meetings shall be held in the City Commission Meeting Room, City Hall, 411 East Main Street Bozeman, Montana from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. or other time designated by the Commission”, and replacing the statement with “The Commission may periodically hold Policy Meetings. The frequency, time, and location of such will be determined by the Commission as set forth in resolution”. BACKGROUND: It is my understanding that our newest Commissioner Eric Bryson cannot attend meetings at noon on Thursdays. Additionally, though Thursdays have been made workable by the Clerk’s office, it does make for an extremely busy day both preparing for the Policy meeting and completing the Commission packets for the upcoming Monday Commission meetings. Therefore, we are suggesting that we amend Ordinance 1727 which specifically sets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month as Commission Policy meetings to much more generic language giving the Commission the latitude to set the frequency, time and location as you see fit. Otherwise, amending the ordinance every time this schedule changes requires a first and second reading and then a 30 day wait before the change becomes effective. If you are inclined to amend Ordinance 1727, I would also suggest that the Commission consider moving the Policy meetings to the second and fourth Wednesdays from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm to be held at City Hall based on current knowledge of your schedules. FISCAL EFFECTS: No impacts were identified. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. Respectfully submitted, ___________________________________ Chris A. Kukulski, City Manager 266
