Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: (Re)Appointments to the Community Alcohol Coalition MEETING DATE: July 14, 2008 RECOMMENDATION: (Re)appoint three members to the Community Alcohol Coalition. BACKGROUND: There are seven terms on the Community Alcohol Coalition that expired on June 30, 2008: Bozeman Law Enforcement, High School Student, Bozeman School District Representative, Hospitality Industry, Interested Citizen, MSU Student, and Prevention Specialist. There are also two other vacancies: Medical Community (term expires June 30, 2009) and Hospitality Industry (term expires on June 30, 2010). The total number of vacancies is nine. There are currently three applicants: one reapplying for the Bozeman Law Enforcement position, one reapplying for the Interested Citizen position, and one new applicant for the Prevention Specialist position (this new applicant took over the job of the former Alcohol and Drug Services of Gallatin County’s Prevention Specialist, Becky Johnson). The Community Alcohol Coalition was created under Commission Resolution No. 3611, based on a recommendation from the Bozeman Alcohol Policy Advisory Council. The Coalition shall consist of 15 members to be appointed by the City Commission. A majority of the members shall be residents of the city. Members shall be appointed so that the membership shall be as follows: 3 Hospitality Industry Representatives, 2 Members of Law Enforcement, one from the Bozeman Police Department and the other from the Sheriff's Office, Montana Highway Patrol, or Montana State University, 2 Prevention Specialists, 1 MSU Student, 1 MSU Faculty or Staff Member, 1 Bozeman High School Student, 1 Bozeman School District Representative, 1 Medical Community Representative, 1 Non-Hospitality Local Business Representative, 1 Neighborhood Association Representative, and 1 Interested Citizen (who may or may not qualify in another capacity). Except for students who serve a 1-year renewable term, members shall serve 3-year staggered terms unless otherwise specifically noted, with terms to expire on June 30. The Community Alcohol Coalition currently has nine vacancies and three applicants.
