SUBJECT: Award of the FY 2008 – 2009 Custodial Contract for City Owned
Buildings
MEETING DATE: July 14, 2008
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the contract with Dust Bunnies
Cleaning Services for janitorial services for fiscal year 2008 -2009. The contract amount for the
annual contract is $140,500.00, and includes cleaning services for: City Hall, City Hall Annex,
Library, Alfred M. Stiff Professional Building, and the office at the Water Treatment Plant.
BACKGROUND: The city contracts for janitorial services for our primary city buildings.
The contract is a one-year contract with the option for three extensions before it is re-bid. When
the current contractor was contacted about renewing the agreement for the upcoming year, they
decided to opt out at the end of the one year.
Faced with the loss of service, the contract was advertised and rebid. Once the contract is
awarded the service provider will secure the required bonds and receive their notice to proceed.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The bid price on this contract is 22% over what we are currently
paying. These costs will be absorbed under the facilities budget for each building.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
