HomeMy WebLinkAboutApprove Suspending Increases of Employment Agreeement with Chris Kukulski Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Addendum to the City Manager Employment Agreement MEETING DATE: February 23, 2009 RECOMMENDATION: That the City Commission approves a motion suspending increases to Section 3 B and Section 6 of the Employment Agreement between the City of Bozeman and City Manager, Chris Kukulski. BACKGROUND: Over the past several months, the city has had to reduce its work force and reduce working hours for some employees as a result of the slowed economy. The Finance Director, Assistant City Manager and I have held meetings with all of the city’s various departments and divisions discussing our current and anticipated economic situation. In these meetings, I have emphasized that the city is NOT in a financial crisis and in fact we expect to avoid any such crisis by properly managing the city’s finances. I believe that the best way to accomplish this goal requires that all ideas be considered for the short term and long term financial impacts. We have emphasized that no ideas are too small or too big. Therefore, consistent with these ideals, I am asking the city commission suspend increases, for the final year of my current employment agreement, each section of the agreement that “automatically” increases annually. Section 3 – Compensation B – COLA: City Agrees to increase said base salary of Employee by the December U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers for All Items on an annual basis, with the effective date of said increase to be July 1, 2007. 39 Section 6 – Vehicle Allowance “The monthly allowance shall be increased annually by 3%, beginning July1, 2005.” I thank you for the opportunity to serve you and the citizens of Bozeman. FISCAL EFFECTS: Small savings to the City of Bozeman ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. Respectfully submitted, ____________________________ Chris A. Kukulski, City Manager 40
