Chris Kukulski, the new city manager will be in attendance. Board members are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting. Emily and Cort will take over secretarial duties until the May meeting when Matt returns. OLD BUSINESS CTEP The bike route sign progress has made excellent progress and is essentially completed. Jon met with the sign department. The crew used all the funds budgeted for the project and used all the signs. Jon suggests purchasing around 20 more signs as spares and the board agreed, using the bike facility funds in the engineering budget. The sign department has agreed to take on maintenance of the signage. A final route inspection is needed. The bike racks that arrived without the required powder coating will be removed sometime in spring to have this done. The company refunded $1500 for this mistake. Those funds, plus another $1500 from the engineering budget will cover the costs of the removal and powder coating. The board agreed that a thank-you should go out to the sign crew who completed the project so effectively. Meeting Summaries At the November 9 meeting, members suggested that meeting summaries should be prepared in more detail. Members are asked to comment on this meeting’s summary directly to Matt. NEW BUSINESS Membership Carol and Cort have received letters indicating their term is up. Both are sending a letter to the Clerk of Commission to indicate their interest in being reappointed. Both had filled out terms of other board members who had left. College & Huffine Shared Use Path This project has scored at the top of the CTEP steering committee reviews. This is a very large project, and it is now up to CTEP to move forward on the project, starting with an engineering study. The Board discussed where the funds for the project are likely to come from. Currently, though, available bike facility funds in the engineering budget are going to be used to complete the bike route map project. Ferguson Bike Lane Carol described a vehicle parking and bike lane conflict on Ferguson Lane. This facility should be better defined. Jon will see if the issue can be brought up with the city. Grade School Bike Program Cort has approached Sally Richter, the principal at Whittier School and the district safety coordinator, about a bike safety program. Cort had a positive response and a commitment to help facilitate a program. A ‘bike rodeo’, all- school assembly and 20-minute grade-level presentation were recommended. The board suggested the following other items to include or think about: Including the Bozeman Police bicycle officers, preparing different programs for grade and middle-school ages, providing free helmets and possibly bikes, and exploring after-school bike club possibilities. Board members pointed out successful programs in Reno, NV and Madison, WI. Cort will continue to work on developing the program. Bike Route Map Update Emily has agreed to produce the map for the Board. She is obtaining a business license for calendar year 2005. She has drawn up a sample contract and Jon will meet with the City Engineer to review and adapt it as necessary. They will attempt to have the contract finalized in early January. The quote is $2840 for printing 7500 copies on quality 80# paper. The labor estimate for the project is $5000. The proposed size of the map is 17” x 21”, with a folded size of 5 2/3” x 3 1/2”. Emily brought sample artwork for Board members to review. The members voted on a preferred look. A key component for Emily is the receipt of the actual map data. Jon will be producing this for her. General Discussion The discussion centered on developments, transportation plans and bike facility needs. The question was asked “how do we follow up on development suggestions?” A key factor in accomplishing facilities is to finalize the “Greater Bozeman Area Bike Network Map” within the city transportation plan, and possibly also the trail plan. This will help make new developments more consistent. The Board will attempt to make progress on this at the January 11th meeting. Jon will provide the necessary map prints. Meeting summary respectfully submitted by Matt Rognlie, Bike Board Secretary
