James Mason (resident of NW neighborhood area affected by Fowler plans) brought the issue of bike/ped facilities on Fowler to the Bike Board. The neighborhood is requesting the city consider a 3-lane minor arterial instead. BABAB indicated that a shared use path is planned for Fowler. Discussion continued on the importance of bike/ped facilities on this arterial as it potentially is a connector between the regional park and Hyalite canyon. It was suggested that a BABAB representative might attend the commission meeting when and if the issue is discussed. The idea of bike/ped facilities on this arterial is crucial to the safety and connectivity of future and existing facilities serving the many residential and recreational opportunities in and around the area. Preference should be given to on-street bike lanes as defined by the Transportation Plan, but a shared-use-path would also be desirable. We will provide an official recommendation to the preference of lane configuration as soon as we are directed to do so. (2) The CTEP bike route signing post-construction issues have been addressed. A few small corrections are needed that weren’t in the original design. (3) A signal is planned for the College / Willson intersection, and the issue was brought before BABAB by the Bozeman Neighborhood Coordinator. The issue was discussed, and no clear consensus was reached as both positive and negative affects were predicted. Therefore the board chose not to officially comment on the project and it’s potential effect on bike facilities. (4) Jon brought forward a list of amendments that resulted from comparing the proposed changes to the bike route network. The GVLT has copies of the maps and amendments and is reviewing. The Park Board will also receive a copy. Andy Epple will then work with Jon to plan a strategy for presenting the amendments to the Transportation Coordinating Committee. The TCC next meets on October 26th, and the results of the meeting will be discussed at BABAB’s November meeting. Next Meeting: November 1, 2005, 6:00 pm, Alfred Stiff Professional Building.
