Old and New Business
(1) Tracy Oulman visited tonight’s meeting as part of a city board survey for the city
clerk’s office. She asked for comments from the board about experiences with the
board appointment process and communications. The board gave several comments
regarding the confusion surrounding appointments, etc. Communication between the
chair and the clerk’s office was also mentioned as a need. Tracy also asked if the board
had attended the city board appreciation event this summer. Several members had
attended and gave comments about improving the next event. These included
promoting brainstorming and small groups, and having the city commission members
address the boards. Printed descriptions of city boards and appreciation buttons were
given to BABAB members who had not attended. The board thanked Tracy for joining
the meeting.
(2) The Dan Burden-led workshop is planned for October 2nd and 3rd, 2006. He will
be addressing ‘livable’ and walkable communities. Jeff and Emily have been assisting
with planning. The board discussed other groups and individuals that should receive
the announcement. The Safe Routes 2 Schools program will be announced and
addressed at the workshops. The workshop and SR2S launch also coincides well with
the national Walk To School Day on October 4. The Dan Burden brochure will be sent
to board members as soon as it is ready.
(3) Emily and Jeff will be meeting September 6 with the local task force for SR2S. The
local group is working with the Montana Department of Transportation and the SR2S
state coordinator.
(4) Dave Kunkle gave an update on the engineering subcommittee. He and Jon are
going through the ASHTO (Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials)
bicycle facility guidebook. They hope to use what they learn to help with the
transportation plan update. Dave will also look at the relationship between facilities
mentioned in the 2020 plan and ordinances.
Next Meeting: The Dan Burden workshop on October 3, 2006, conflicts slightly with the
board meeting. Tentatively, the board will plan to meet at 6 pm as usual (Alfred Stiff
Professional Building) and then attend the public presentation by Dan at the Hager
Auditorium, Museum of the Rockies.
