Old and New Business
(1) Jon gave several updates from the Transportation Coordinating Committee that he
attends. The RFP closing date for the Transportation Plan update has passed, and
screening of three proposals should be completed by mid-August. Interviews of
applicants and award of contract should take place in September. The update process
should last about one year.
(2) The transit system (http://www.streamlinebus.com/) will be up and running in mid-
August. Four buses are on lease for the first year, with the new, yellow buses arriving
in late spring, 2007.
(3) The Valley Center path to be built as part of the road reconstruction has recently
been reduced from 10 foot paved to 8 foot gravel. The MDT would pay for paving if
the county would commit to maintaining the path, but the county has not done that.
(4) A signal for the College and Willson intersection has been recommended by the
MDT and city engineers. The commission is still against this idea, but it is clear that a
roundabout is not a possibility.
(5) The next public meeting for North Rouse will be soon. Durston reconstruction will
be finished by this fall.
(6) David B. gave an update on the plans for North 7th. At a cost of $68,000 to the
city, Winter & Co. was hired to provide a concept for redesign in the TFID (a.ka. ‘blight
zone’). Their conclusion was there was not enough room for parking and bike lanes,
except in the Oak and north portion. They have proposed three roundabouts at 7th
and Mendenhall, 7th and Main and 8th and Main. Ron Brey of the city has asked for
comments to be sent to him directly (rbrey AT bozeman.net). Rick Hixon (sp?) at the
city is supporting arterial standards which would apply to North 7th. These standards
include bike lanes on both sides. MDT is also requesting comment on the North 7th
overpass rebuild.
(7) Safe Trails Coalition is still very active. They are looking for a non-profit to help
with funding mechanisms. Representative from a number of boards are attending their
meetings.
(8) David B. completed an informal bicycle license survey. The average cost of city
bike licenses is around $3. The primary function of a license is generally to assist in
theft retrieval.
(9) Bob Wade announced the Bozeman Classic Baghdad Edition supported by the
Winddrinkers, in conjunction with the popular foot race at Sweet Pea.
(10) The engineering subcommittee of BABAB will be working on facility standards to
help with the Transportation Plan update.
(11) Jeff mentioned that CTEP has a link on the Bozeman Library Web site
(http://www.bozemanlibrary.org/newlibrary.html) to the CTA proposal for paths, etc.
The public is able to submit comments there.
Next Meeting: September 5, 2006, 6:00 pm, Alfred Stiff Professional Building.
