July 5, 2005 Meeting Summary
Attendance
David Baumbauer, Matt Rognlie, Emily Harrington, Jeff Ball, Jim Webster (visitor and
potential Board member)
Old Business
-Jeff will follow up with Marilyn King in the fall regarding bike curriculum in the schools.
-Emily will continue to follow up on the used/abandoned bike ideas. The city bike
auction is Saturday, July 9. A BABAB representative will be on hand to purchase the
leftovers if possible.
New Business
-The Gallatin County planning office has contacted David to see if the BABAB is able to
offer services to county planning and the Pedestrian Safety Committee. After
discussion, the Board agreed that David should contact the County and pursue some
kind of partnership.
-Those in attendance discussed the need to have the City Transportation Plan amended
to reflect the current bike network. The Board decided that the plan should be
reviewed at our August meeting and our final decision to be brought to the City
Commission for a September meeting. Information about the current network, changes
already agreed on, and disputed areas will be brought to the next meeting.
-Ideas for improvements to the BABAB Web site were taken. These included new links
to local bike stores and groups, GVLT, etc. Also, the bike map should be made more
prominent and the sizes of some files need to be checked as they are likely too large for
most people to make use of. Matt will follow up and make the changes.
-Matt brought up the idea of a pedestrian crossing at 15th and Oak, since that is the
intersection of a shared use path on the north, and a bike lane on the south. Matt will
draw up a rough diagram of the intersection and bring the design to the next meeting.
-The idea of having more media coverage of city bike activities was discussed, and the
group decided that guest editorials in the Chronicle should be pursued.
