To the Department of Community Development:
I respectfully submit the following comments regarding the Bikefill Site Plan Application (No.26278) at 2143 Story Mill Road. I urge the Department to consider the long-term traffic
impacts on McIlhattan Road once paving is complete and Bikefill is open.
My primary concern is the stretch of McIlhattan Road running southwest from St. Andrews
Road, past Bridger Creek Golf Course, to Story Mill Road. This segment lacks adequateshoulder space for pedestrians and bicyclists. The problem is worse during peak golf season,
when overflow parking from the golf course lot fills the shoulder. As a pedestrian and cyclist,I also find the transition from McIlhattan onto Story Mill Road extremely unsafe. I expect
traffic on McIlhattan to increase once Bikefill opens, which will compound these conditions.
I understand the Director of Transportation and Engineering waived the Traffic Impact Study
based on projected trip generation. I respectfully request that this decision be revisited so thatcombined bike park and golf course use is fully accounted for, particularly on weekends,
afternoons, and event days.
Specifically, I ask the Department to evaluate:
shoulder widening or a separated path for pedestrians and cyclists on this segment;restrictions on shoulder parking near Bridger Creek Golf Course;
a safer pedestrian connection at the McIlhattan/Story Mill intersection.
I believe sound traffic engineering on McIlhattan Road will improve safety along its full
length. It would also expand safe access from Story Mill to the broader Bozeman trail system(e.g., the Bridger Canyon Road trail and the Story Mill Park corridor).
