Dear City Commissioners,
Ahead of your October 6 discussion of community priorities, I'm writing to share why a second
indoor aquatics facility matters to my family.
We are residents of Bozeman and all of us would use and benefit from a new pool and
aquatics facility. My wife and I both swim in adult lap swim, and our daughter swims several
times a week as a member of the Bozeman Barracudas swim team. Right now, the existing
Swim Center is the only indoor pool for a fast-growing city, and we all feel the crowding
firsthand. Securing needed lanes and times is also an ongoing challenge for the Barracudas.
These issues will only get worse as Bozeman grows.
Other peer cities have planned ahead. Many offer significantly more pool space and the
facilities are more modern. Facilities like these are a big part of what makes a city a great place
to live and raise a family.
Because planning and construction take years, I urge the Commission to start now. And if the
City pursues a recreation center, please make the pool its first and primary focus, prioritizing
the quality and capacity of the pool (and lap swim in particular) over other equipment and
uses.
Thank you for your time and your work for our community.
Sincerely,
Christopher Hill
