Dear Bozeman City Commissioners,
I am writing to express my support for the City to invest in a new aquatics facility as part of its strategic facility
planning efforts.
Swimming is an integral and important part of our family’s, and many other Bozeman residents’, life. However year
round and diverse access to swimming is limited by the number and quality of the facilities in the City. Bozeman
would benefit from having an additional 25 yard competition level pool to complement the 50 meter swim center. It
would allow for the numerous swim cohorts (swim clubs, high school swim teams, masters swim teams, triathletes,
recreational swimmers, and families needing swim lessons to make their children water safe) another place to
recreate, train and compete.
The need is notable given the recent maintenance challenges that required shutting down the aging swim center for
multiple summers. As it stands, neither Bozeman or Gallatin High school can host a home swim meet because we
lack a 25 yard pool. And local swim clubs also must travel to other cities to host a meet or swim competitively.
Additionally lack of pool space continues to negatively affect access to the water for all user groups - as it currently
stands most of the pool user groups are not able to use the pool as often as they would pay for due to lack of lane
space.
This is a need supported by the larger community. In the approved Bozeman PRAT plan aquatics programming and
facilities were listed as a top ten need and desire by the community. Please include an additional swimming pool in
your future facility plans and support swimmers of all ages.
