The lack of swim services/ hours open to the public is incredibly poor in Bozeman. When first coming to Bozeman
I was totally impressed with hiking/biking trails; phenomenal. However, I can not say the same thing regarding the
aquatics programs. A 50 meter high school pool only open a few hours, 5 days a week for lap, walking/jogging
swim and no weekend hours. Majority of time it is open is for swim teams swimming the width of pool which is not
even 20 yards making it extremely difficult to train competitively for both short and long course meets; 25 meters
and 50 meters.
Montana is the 10th highest rated stated for drowning while being one of the least populated states. Swimming
lessons are only offered in the summer at Bogert Pool which needs major, major updating. This pool offers limited
hours for lap swim with only a rope and a few bouys attached dividing lanes.
What aquatic programs could be offered; additional aquatic safety programs for the entire community, family
evening swim hours, hours open during the weekends, water aerobics morning and evening, advanced swimming
course for triathletes, water polo, underwater hockey, better hours for swim teams; masters and competitive teams,
not swimming width of the pool, even diving. Bozeman you can do better! Other cities in Montana have!
