Good afternoon,
I am a 67 year old recently retired nurse. I have been swimming at the Swim Center since it opened in 2004 (prior
to that I was swimming at MSU where I graduated). I have been a lap swimmer since high school and very much
enjoy lap swimming 2 - 3 times per week. I love the Swim Center but it has become challenging the past few years
due to the number of new swimmers. When the lap lanes are too busy in the morning, I will often resort to doing a
water aerobic workout in the exercise lane. Often, the swimmers are of variable speed in the lap lanes which makes
it difficult, and even dangerous, to swim in. (I have had two head on collisions with swimmers in my lane who were
swimming on the wrong side of the lap lane).
I strongly feel Bozeman is LONG OVERDUE for additional swimming pools.
Bogert Pool, which was old and in need of many repairs when our kids took swimming lessons there over 20 years
ago, is also due for an update ( a new, much larger pool to accommodate Bozeman’s growth). Perhaps more
lifeguards would work if they had improved working conditions? I know staffing is an issue. Perhaps reaching out
to retired folks whom have been lifeguards in the past - would be interested in working part time?
Thank you for listening. I hope and pray Bozeman gets an additional swimming pool in my lifetime. It is such a
popular sport in a very active Bozeman community!
