ORDINANCE 2026-07
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA AMENDING
SECTION 2.04.010 AND THE TITLE OF DIVISION 13 OF THE BOZEMAN MUNICIPAL CODE TO
DISSOLVE THE DEPARTMENT OF STRATEGIC SERVICES AND ESTABLISH THE DEPARTMENT OF
COMMUNICATIONS & ENGAGEMENT.
WHEREAS, pursuant section 2.11 of the charter the city commission must adopt an
ordinance to establish, alter, or abolish any city department; and
WHEREAS, the assigned duties of the Department of Strategic Services have been
subsumed within the City Manager’s office and as such the City no longer needs to organize and
administer a department to provide these services; and
WHEREAS, the Commission determines a department is necessary to administer the
City’s programs and services related to communication and engagement.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
BOZEMAN, MONTANA:
Section 1
That Section 2.04.010, Bozeman Municipal Code, will be amended as follows:
Sec. 2.04.010. – Administrative departments established.
A. The following administrative departments of the city are established:
1. Department of finance;
2. Department of fire;
3. Department of human resources;
4. Department of information technology;
5. Department of law;
6. Department of parks and recreation;
7. Department of community development;

8. Department of police;
9. Department of transportation and engineering;
10. Department of utilities;
11. Department of economic development; and
12. Department of strategic services Department of communications &
engagement.
Section 2
That the title of Chapter 2, Article 4, Division 13, Bozeman Municipal Code, be renamed
Department of Communications and Engagement and remain reserved.
Section 3
Repealer.
All provisions of the ordinances of the City of Bozeman in conflict with the provisions of
this ordinance are, and the same are hereby, repealed and all other provisions of the ordinances
of the City of Bozeman not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall remain in full
force and effect.
Section 4
Savings Provision.
This Ordinance does not affect the rights and duties that matured, penalties that were
incurred or proceedings that were begun before the effective date of this Ordinance. All other
provisions of the Bozeman Municipal Code not amended by this Ordinance shall remain in full
force and effect.
Section 5
Severability.
That should any sentence, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase or section of this
Ordinance be adjudged or held to be unconstitutional, illegal, or invalid, the same shall not affect
the validity of this Ordinance as a whole, or any part or provision thereof, other than the part so
decided to be invalid, illegal or unconstitutional, and shall not affect the validity of the Bozeman
Municipal Code as a whole.

Section 6
Codification.
The provisions of Sections 1 and 2 of this Ordinance shall be codified in the Bozeman
Municipal Code as shown.
Section 7
Effective Date.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after final adoption.
PROVISIONALLY ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana, on
first reading at a regular session held on the 21st day of July 2026.

FINALLY PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the City Commission of the City of
Bozeman, Montana on second reading at a regular session thereof held on the 4th of August
2026. The effective date of this ordinance is September 3, 2026.
