Dear Commissioners,
Thank you for your service to our very special city. I would like to add
another need:
1) Renovation and expansion of the Senior Center. The services
provided to seniors in our community are simply unavailable anywhere else.
Meals on Wheels is essential. Having lunch available at the center provides
essential connection opportunities, and the many educational opportunities
and exercise classes help keep our community health care costs
down. The current center is bulging at the seams and need to be added to
the list of future projects, hopefully before most of us die.
2) Affordable housing: While I understand the need for affordable housing,
building more unaffordable units is not the answer. It's time to call for a
moratorium while the dust settles and assess where we are most in need.
3) Library expansion: The Library is an essential part of our community
and something we can be proud of. Do we need another location on the
west side? Of course. However, the efforts that went in to fundraising to
build it needs to be part of the westside addition. The city can lead a
partnership to make this happen but the portion of tax dollars needs to be
proportional so that other needs, such as the Senior Center expansion and
renovation can be added the list. I also believe there is an opportunity to
raise matching funds to help with those costs as well.We have a very
generous community.
