Commissioners - The Commission will be considering items to be placed on future ballots during your work session
meeting on October 6th. While there are many worthy projects competing for future funding, my hopes are that
you will seriously look at our community's need for a more stable, reliable and comprehensive system for providing
emergency medical services (EMS). The current "system" is really just a small patchwork of providers , with the
largest entity not having any contractual obligation with the city of Bozeman or any other jurisdiction, leaving the
city and surrounding fire districts vulnerable should shareholders at this private, for-profit provider decide that this
market is no longer profitable. Unlike both fire and police services, EMS is not deemed an essential service in
Montana and does not receive any state or local subsidies in Gallatin County. A future ballot initiative is imperative
for a more robust system for Bozeman and County residents and visitors.
