Dear Commissioners and Staff,
As you consider priorities for upcoming community needs at your 6-Oct
meeting I am writing with comment on one avenue of consideration - an
aquatics facility. Our family has a member who swims on a competitive
team with limited and hampered access to public pool time. We travel
the state for swim meets and are impressed by the other cities swimming
facilities and wish we had the same here in the Gallatin Valley. The
City of Bozeman should consider prioritizing access to its existing
public pools (Bozeman High and Bogert Pool), updating these facilities
to modernize their capabilities and expand their offerings, and
reintroduce the option for an aquatics center to a future budget. The
facility should be adaptable for lane swimming, recreational open-swim,
scuba, and kayaking. It should have hours of operation that allow for a
wide range of community groups to rent space as well as offer swim
lessons and safety programs run by City Parks. Our family spends
between two and four hours a week at Bozeman pools and are forced into
limited time slots and are left without any option to access water
during the cold months of the year when the limited pool space is under
repair or closed.
Sincerely,
Sam Haraldson
