Dear City Commission,
I am writing on behalf of my family to support a new aquatics facility. Bozeman desperately
needs an indoor 25-yard pool. My daughter is a freshman at Gallatin High School. She hasswum on the Barracuda swim team for three years and will swim on the high school team.
Currently, if Bozeman wants to host a short course swim meet, we have to travel to Butte anduse the YMCA pool. The high school team can only host a Bozeman only "fun" meet due to
the incorrect length of the Bozeman swim center. The swim center is OK for a long-coursesummer meet. The ability to host meets would bring additional tourism dollars into Bozeman.
The current city facilities lack enough space to support two swim teams plus the high school
swim teams. When issues arise with the swim center, the swim team is forced to travel toHelena, Butte, or swim outside pre-dawn in the snow in late October. An additional "correct
length" aquatics facility would let swimmers keep training when the swim center inevitablyshuts down. It would also provide additional space to avoid late night swim practice. A 10
year old shouldn't have to practice until 9 pm on a school night because there isn't enoughspace to get in earlier.
This project has already been delayed due to increased property taxes, and the chances that
anything could be remedied before my daughter graduates high school and moves on are veryslim. We needed this facility 20 years ago!
