Hello,
I’m writing to express support for a new aquatics center in Bozeman. As a family of four with children ages 12 and
9, we would welcome additional facilities that could provide opportunities for play and learning.
My children are on the Barracudas swim team, and the lanes are often very packed during practice, and few lanes
are then open for public swimming, which feels like a disservice to the broader community. In addition, we often
travel to neighboring communities to use their facilities in the summer. Butte, Missoula, and Helena all often much
nicer outdoor public facilities for learning and play. Given the climate in Bozeman, I think an indoor/outdoor facility
would be best, but an indoor facility should take precedence.
Many folks who would participate in Masters swimming do not due to limited facilities. And many children are not
adequate swimmers due to the difficulty in finding lessons or the cost. This is a fundamental skill, and communities
should provide facilities to learn it to their members.
