STRATEGIC PLAN:4.2 High Quality Urban Approach: Continue to support high-quality planning, ranging from building design to neighborhood layouts, while pursuing urban approaches to issues such as multimodal transportation, infill, density, connected trails and parks, and walkable neighborhoods. BACKGROUND:The City has been reviewing its historic preservation program for several years. The project website is available on Engage Bozeman [external link]. The City completed phase 1 of the project in spring of 2025 which identified various recommendations and City Commission direction on revisions. A report of these recommendations is on the project website. Phase 2, which is amendments to the municipal code, began in summer of 2025. Some elements of the program will affect the Unified Development Code and other elements will focus on non-regulatory matters. Staff will provide a status report on the project and answer questions from the Board. The larger UDC update completed in winter of 2025 did not materially change standards or processes related to the City's historic preservation processes except as required to conform to new laws. The Landmark project is the first material update to these portions of code in many years. The Historic Preservation Advisory Board has been working on the project as well and recordings of their meetings are available on the City's website [external link].
