I like and am in agreement with: "What BTC likes about the UFMP draft so far":1. The overarching call to action for a healthy and sustainable urban forest with goals to expandthe canopy.2. The Inclusion of a Heritage Tree template.3. Emphasis on best practices of care for publicly owned trees, including young trees. 4. Emphasis on tree protection during construction.
I like and am in agreement with: "What BTC would like to see improved in the UFMPdraft":1. Stronger emphasis and text for improving tree ordinances and city codes for tree retention(aka preservation). 2. Recommendation for hiring an Urban Ecologist that can bridge City departments and assistthe forestry division with development reviews for tree retention and riparian areas.3. Recommendation to involve the City Forester (or Urban Ecologist, if hired) early in thedevelopment application process so important habitat or existing trees can be designed aroundrather than removed.4. Overall reduction of length of document, from 120 pages to 60 pages plus appendices byreducing unnecessary text, redundancies, and moving most technical details to appendices.
