Dear City Commissioners
Thank you for your service.
I’ve been hearing this funny saying lately that people “need to go touch grass” to get outsideand away from life on line. My thing has always been trees. While I love plants I really lovetrees and consider myself a “tree hugger.” Therefore I write this in support of the BozemanTree Coalition and all their many, many supporters when I implore you to consider thefollowing as you update the Urban Forrest Management Plan:Please place stronger emphasis and written text for improving tree ordinances and city
codes for tree retention and by default, preservation.
Please include hiring an Urban Ecologist that can bridge City departments and assist
the forestry division with development reviews for tree retention and riparian areas.
Please involve the City Forester (or Urban Ecologist, if hired) early in the
development application process so important habitat or existing trees can be
designed around rather than removed. The example that comes to mind are the over
150 trees that were destroyed at the Story Mill Rd development. It’s imperative we
protect the trees. We are their spokespeople.
Please reduce the overall length of the document, from 120 pages to 60 pages (plus
appendices) by reducing unnecessary text, redundancies, and moving most technical
details to appendices.
Thanks again for all you do and for reading this.
Standing by,
Patty McGown
