Dear Bozeman City Commissioners, I am writing to express my appreciation for the exceptional care and attention being given to Sunset Hills Cemetery. As part of our historic walking tour program, Extreme History leads tours through Sunset Hills Cemetery every Sunday throughout the summer. Because we spend so much time in the cemetery, we've had the opportunity to see firsthand the work that has taken place over the past year. We have noticed significant efforts to preserve and maintain the historic headstones, including both repairs and cleaning, and the difference is remarkable. Our tour attendees have noticed as well. Many have commented on how well cared for the cemetery looks and have expressed their appreciation for the work being done to preserve this important historic place. I often tell our tour participants that a cemetery is an outdoor museum. Sunset Hills holds the stories of so many of the people who built, shaped, and called Bozeman home. Its headstones and monuments are not simply markers but they are historic resources that help us tell the story of our community. Preserving them ensures that those stories remain accessible to future generations. We know that cemetery preservation requires time, expertise, resources, and a great deal of care. We want the City Commission and the staff responsible for Sunset Hills Cemetery to know that their efforts are being noticed and deeply appreciated. Thank you for your continued commitment to maintaining and preserving Sunset Hills Cemetery and for recognizing the importance of this special place to Bozeman's history and community.
