Weaver - Tax for tree maintenance To: City Commission, Bozeman Re: Tax for tree maintenance Dt: 19 Aug 2026 1 suggest that the city council revise its plan for taxation to support management of the city's trees. As a specific, I suggest taxation based on eurb length instead of lot area. I summarize my logic below. t 1. Parts of Bozeman have no city trees and never will. e.g. Graf addition near Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Should they be taxed? ?. 2. 1 enjoy the trees along Wilson. Perhaps I should contribute to their maintenance. This is entirely unrelated to the size of my lot. Should the tax 5e based on the number of people occupying the lot. 3. The trees the city maintains are along the street. Thus the tax should be based on the curb length of the lot. A tax based on lot area un air y pen lizes those with more iso-diametric lots' Your records probably include curb length so this coul a straightforwardly applied. If not, a tax based on the square root of the lot area would be more fair. 4. The observation that the city's forest is pruned to make it ever taller is detrimental to the trees and dangerous to our citizens. Taxation to insure against such problems seems infeasible. This is subject to future discussion of the council. T Weaver 824 O'Connell Dr Bozeman Mt 59715
