A few of us met with City staff and have been in conversation with several Commissionersabout amending City code to be dark sky friendly. We promised to forward letters to the editor that appear discussing this topic. Here is another one (second letter). Thank you. Yesterday, both of our Senators voted to confirm Todd Blanche as the US Attorney General. I have questions: 2. He said he would not create the January 6th slush fund. Somehow, he will. How much of it will I get the next time I beat a police officer with his own baton? 3. He will also go ahead and fulfill the president’s fever dream of not having to pay the $100,000,000 in taxes he was already found liable for as well as not have his, his family’s nor his businesses taxes audited. I was raised to believe that in America, no man is above the law. If he doesn’t have to pay his taxes, why do I? 4. Our Senators were elected, in part to act as a check and balance to the executive branch, not aid and abet it, which is what they have just done. If I do not do my job, I do not get paid. Why are we paying them to not do their job? If they are too scared to do their job for fear of losing it, they should not have taken it. If they truly believe Todd Blanche is qualified to be the US Attorney General, I question their qualifications to be Senators. The night sky is waitingTonight, look up. The night sky is waiting When was the last time you stood beneath a sky so full of stars that, for a moment, nothing else seemed to matter? A truly dark sky reaches us beyond words. The noise of the world begins to recede, our thoughts settle, and the relentless urgency of our lives softens. For a brief moment, we stop striving and simply stand in awe. Perhaps that’s why people have always looked up in wonder. Beneath the stars they found perspective, humility, and mystery. The stars remind us of a truth we easily forget: We are astonishingly small, yet inseparably woven into something unimaginably vast. Even the carbon in our cells and the iron in our blood were forged in ancient stars long before they became part of the Earth, and eventually part of us. Gallatin Valley is fortunate to still know dark skies. As our valley grows, let us ensure they remain part of our future. Science shows darkness is more than the absence of light. It is one half of the ancient rhythm that sustains life. It synchronizes our circadian rhythms, restores healthy sleep, regulates hormones, and allows our bodies and minds to recover. Across the valley, darkness guides migrating birds, helps nocturnal insects pollinate native plants, allows bats and owls to hunt, signals plants when to flower and rest, and shapes the rhythms of elk, foxes, and countless other species. Remove the darkness, and we disrupt the primordial rhythms upon which life depends. Darkness has always been sacred because it restores a perspective modern life too easily erodes: that we are not the center of the story, but participants within it. Tonight, put your phone down. Step outside. Then look up. What would this valley be without its stars? Reece KothReece KothReece KothReece Koth Bozeman © Bozeman Daily Chronicle Powered by TECNAVIA
