I often think I don’t explain myself well when I’m trying to describe the nexus between
historic preservation, sustainability, and community benefit. This article is a fantastic read!
Tools like:
An adaptive reuse overlay, which basically suspends code in order to make projects get to“yes” as long as they are reusing an existing structure (and are safe of course).
A deconstruction ordinance that salvages quality building materials for reuse in the case, we’re
demolition must occur.
And zoning that more closely matches what exists on the ground to facilitate incrementalchange rather than drastic redevelopment.
And I’m sure countless other tools.
