Dear Bozeman City Commission, I'm writing to request that the Commission pursue implementation of a 15 mph school speed zone on Rouse Avenue in front of Hawthorne Elementary School. I understand this stretchfalls under MDT jurisdiction, which adds complexity to the process, but I believe the safety need outweighs the administrative hurdle. Bozeman has seen pedestrian and cyclist deaths and accidents over the past two years, and I'mconcerned that Rouse Avenue near Hawthorne is another serious incident waiting to happen. During morning and afternoon arrival and dismissal times, when children are actively using the crosswalks, I have repeatedly observed drivers ignoring crossing guards and drivingaround pedestrians in the crosswalk. This is dangerous and puts children at direct risk. A reduced 15 mph speed zone in this area would send a clear signal to drivers to slow down and pay attention where it matters most. I'm asking the Commission to work with MDT tomake this change a priority before a tragedy occurs. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue. I'd welcome the opportunity todiscuss further. Sincerely, Josh Gage615 North Bozeman Ave joshgage@gmail.com406-570-1060
