•N 27th Avenue exists north of Cattail
Street and south of Baxter Lane.
•City Capital Project currently under
construction to connect N 27th Ave
between Baxter Lane and Cattail Street.
Resolution No. 3628 outlines street name change process:
1.Engineering Staff Requested a Resolution via Petition (April 2026)
2.Acknowledgement of Request Approved (Consent: April 7, 2026)
3.Engineering Staff Report Prepared (June 2026)
4.Resolution of Intent No. 2026-44 Approved (Consent: June 2, 2026)
5.Public Notice Issued
•Bozeman Daily Chronicle June 13 and June 20, 2026
•Notices mailed to property owners (June 2026)
6.Public Hearing Scheduled (Action: July 14, 2026)
Street Name Change Process
Resolution No. 3628 provides Commission the following action options:
•Deny the petition;
•Approve the petition;
•Approve the petition with conditions;
•Approve an alternative to the action;
•Allow the petition to be withdrawn;
•Allow any other action that is in the best interests of the public.
Commission Actions
After incorporating the information in the staff
report, oral findings made by the Commission
during the public hearing, information
contained in the proposed resolution, and after
considering all protests and public comment, I
hereby move to adopt the Resolution,
renaming Thomas Drive to North 27th Avenue.

•Transportation and Engineering Staff
requested a Resolution.
•N 27th Avenue exists north of Cattail
Street and south of Baxter Lane.
•Continuity of street names is an important
safety consideration for emergency
response.
•City Design and Construction Standards
state “all new streets shall assume the
name of the street on which it aligns
unless the street does not and cannot in
the future connect to an existing segment
along the alignment.”
•City Capital Project currently under
construction to connect N 27th Ave
between Baxter Lane and Cattail Street.
Impact on private and public utilities
•City Capital Project is currently
constructing N 27th Avenue to a city
standard street. That project includes
installation of needed water, sewer
and stormwater facilities.
•Name change will not impact any
public or private utilities
Impact on traffic, existing and future
•Name change will not impact the use
of the road for existing or future traffic
•Creating continuity of the street name
will enhance route finding for
emergency services, deliveries, and
the traveling public.

•No official protests were received
•Staff received one public
comment indicating a preference
for maintaining the City’s quirks.
Protest and Public Comment
•At present, there are currently 33
addresses that would be directly
impacted by the proposed name
change. Notice of this proposed
change was mailed to all of these
addresses.
•City Staff will take all necessary
public steps to implement the
change of name for the road.
•Staff identifies no public detriment
from the proposed name change.
•The staff identified alternative is
to not change the name.

Recommendations
After incorporating the information in the staff
