Change the Name of Graf Street
to East Graf Street

Graf Street
•Graf Street in this area was initially
established through platting process in
the time frame of 1960s or 1970s.
Resolution No. 3628 outlines street name change process:
1.Petition received from South Meadows Condominium Owners
Association which includes 100 residential units (October 2025)
2.Acknowledgement of Request Approved (Consent: March 24, 2026)
3.Engineering Staff Report Prepared (June 2026)
4.Resolution of Intent No. 2026-43 Approved (Consent: June 2, 2026)
5.Public Notice Issued
•Bozeman Daily Chronicle June 13 and June 20, 2026
•Notices mailed to property owners (June 2026)
6.Public Hearing Scheduled (Action: July 14, 2026)
Street Name Change Process
Resolution No. 3628 provides Commission the following action options:
•Deny the petition;
•Approve the petition;
•Approve the petition with conditions;
•Approve an alternative to the action;
•Allow the petition to be withdrawn;
•Allow any other action that is in the best interests of the public.
Commission Actions
After incorporating the information in the staff
report, oral findings made by the Commission
during the public hearing, information
contained in the proposed resolution, and
after considering all protests and public
comment, I move to adopt the Resolution
renaming Graf Street east of Tracy Avenue to
East Graf Street.

•Petition received from South Meadows
Condo Owners Association which
includes 100 residential units. There are
currently 160 addresses that would be
directly impacted by the proposed name
change.
•Concerns related to receipt of deliveries
and response of emergency services.
•BMC 10.07.060 Building Numbers, Numbering
Systems establish Tracy Avenue as the
dividing line between east and west.
•Google and other navigation systems identify
it as Graf Street, likely based on platted name.
•Some properties within the impacted area
already use East Graf Street for mailing
address.
•City billing generally uses East Graf Street.
•Street signs use E Graf St.

of the road for existing or future traffic
•Bringing this section of Graf Street
into compliance with BMC will
improve uniformity of addressing that

the traveling public.

•City staff received one official protest to
the name change prior to tonight’s
meeting, requesting to keep the original
name of Graf Street to avoid the need of
updating property addresses and any
associated fees.
•Staff received no public comment prior
to tonight’s meeting.

implement the change of name for the
road.
•Staff identifies no public detriment from the
proposed name change.
•Recommended street name change will
implement a correction that will assist in
maintaining public health and safety
through correct and consistent navigation
guidance for emergency services.
•The staff identified alternative is to not
change the name.
