Description
My name is Chris Thompson, and I've lived through the transformation of
Gallatin Valley over the last several decades. I understand that growth is coming.
The question isn't whether Northwest Bozeman develops, but whether we have
the courage to develop it in a way that preserves what makes this valley special.
As you plan for 3,000 acres, I ask that you prioritize four things: First, protect
view sheds and meaningful open space. Once agricultural land and mountain
views are lost, they are gone forever. Those landscapes are part of our economy,
our identity, and our quality of life. Second, build complete communities rather
than endless subdivisions. Residents should be able to walk or bike to parks,
schools, small businesses, and daily services without adding thousands of
additional vehicle trips to already congested roads. Third, plan infrastructure
before development, not after it. Water, wastewater, transportation, emergency
services, and schools should not be playing catch-up ten years from now. Fourth,
create housing options that serve local workers, families, veterans, seniors, and
young Montanans—not exclusively higher-income newcomers. A healthy
community requires economic diversity. I would also encourage the city to
explore innovative approaches such as food forests, community agriculture,

wildlife corridors, trail connections, renewable energy, and neighborhood
designs that strengthen resilience rather than simply maximizing density. Future
generations will live with the decisions made here. Let's make sure Northwest
Bozeman becomes a model for Montana growth instead of another example of
sprawl. Thank you.

Happy to help advise, we've developed many of these systems at our off grid Ecovillage in the Horseshoe
Hills that can be replicated throughout further developments! https://campbozeman.com
